Hot 97 Who's Next At S.O.B.s

Last night, Hot 97 held their "Who's Next" concert at S.O.B.s in NYC. There was performances from some of the music industry's most talented performers on the rise. The scheduled performers were Mr. Ivory Snow, Pure, & YG. There were also a few other acts added to keep the entertainment flowing. Sadly, the main performer of the evening YG never showed up so many of the ticketed guest left feeling sort of ripped off. The night wasn't bad at all despite his absence.

Book of The Week Presented By Ms Book Queen

If you haven’t read The Hunger Games by now but you’ve seen the movie, then you really need to go out and get yourself a copy of the book right away. In most cases the book is always better than the movie, which is probably why it was optioned for a movie in the first place. We’ve seen celebs from Miley Cyrus to Lebron James with a copy of the book in their hand showing that The Hunger Games just might be an excellent read.

But what exactly is The Hunger Games about? For those who have neither seen the movie nor read the book The Hunger Games is a dystopian fiction novel. Basically that means it’s a novel set place sometime far in the future with drastic changes to the world. Each district has to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12-18 to The Hunger Games to fight to the death on live TV. Katniss Everdeen is the main character and the heroine of the story. Katniss ends up taking her younger sister’s place in the Games and we get to witness firsthand her battle for survival, friendship, and love in The Hunger Games.
This all makes for a book that you will not want to put down once you’ve started to read it. There is plenty of action and adventure to enjoy in this novel. And just so you know, when you finish this book, there are two more to enjoy in this trilogy. J

Video: "Daughters" By Nas

Nas releases a powerful message through his music with this latest video dedicated to all the single parent fathers out there. Perfect song highlighting a real father's love before Father's Day in a few weeks. I dedicate this music video to my cousin Farf, he's always an amazing dad to his daughter.

Steel Battalion Heavy Armor "How to" Trailer

Wow...that sure looks like a lot of work just to play a video game lol. I remember the original Steel Battalion for the Original XBOX, now that game was so expensive that no one you knew even owned it. The controller was exactly like the confusing cockpit controls you see on the tv screen in this trailer. Not sure how accurate this game's controls will be but it looks interesting, maybe I'll get to try it at E3.

Prada Presents "A THERAPY" short film

This is a very interesting way to advertise clothing. Not going to comment too much about it, just watch it and I'm sure you'll understand lol. It's very well produced feature nonetheless. This is high quality advertising.

Video: "Naked" By Kevin McCall Feat. Big Sean

Despite the title of this song, there is actually an amazing looking wardrobe in this video. Kudos to the stylist. I already expected the style to be on point because any video with big sean involved is usually fashion forward.

Music Monday: "Time Travel Undone" By SZA

The first single from 22 year old small town suburbanite SZA (pronounced Sosa) is a smokey sultry "mood" piece  (a product of the usual culprits) : an excess of ganja, jumbled thoughts and an empty studio at 4am.

"I was raised on a lot of John Coltrane, Satchmo, Miles Davis, Billy, and Marvin, with an adult obsession of all things Wu-tang. The one thing I've always admired is their ability to paint scenes with their sounds.  When I write I usually let the beat saturate my mood and head space  that determines every scene and set design for any song ,the rest is all secondary."

The songstress  was first noticed in 2010-2011 sharing stages with the likes of Canadian artist Colin Munroe, Asher Roth, and multiple Star Trak artists including Christian Rich. Since then, SZA has released a variety of soulful tidbits, ranging from features on some of your favorite artist's tracks to song-writing and solo cuts. With cosigns from 10deep, Creative Control, Billionaire Boys Club, and more.

Fans wondering why SZA hasn’t dropped a solo project yet should blame the wait on an obsession with perfection and an insatiable desire to fine-tune her creative voice. SZA has toiled for a year to build a sound that synthesizes her sultry voice, creative vision, and contagious style. You can bet that “Time Travel” is just the beginning. Be on the lookout for more visuals and smooth ambient tracks coming sooner than you think.

Movie Review: Battleship

I finally had the chance to check out Battleship this weekend, I was not amazed nor disappointed. The film was simply alright. I initially had no interest in the film but I was curious to see how they would convert the classic board game concept into an interesting movieconcept. The whole alien thing was a little weird but they did manage to execute the board game concept in an interesting scientific way. I found myself yelling "You sunk my Battleship!" about 2 or 3 times when they called out position codes, LOL. I was also eager to see Rihanna's acting debut. I was disappointed by Rihanna's performance in this film, she had all one liners and it sounded like she was mumbling most of the time trying to conceal that accent. Just like on twitter, RiRi was playing a girl with a rude personality. Throughout the film it seems like they are trying to be funny in just about every single scene but it just doesn't pair well with the serious threat of an alien invasion. The movie Battleship is filled with lots of action and old people telling old people jokes. By the way, these old people are REAL navy vets. Overall, the movie is worth seeing but it's not a great spectacular film, Battleship is "a Terry McFly Maybe". (Meaning see it only if you're a Rihanna fan or you already saw the Avengers and need a new movie to watch)

Movie Review: The Dictator

One of the most anticipated films of the year was definitely "The Dictator", sadly it will now go down as one of the most disappointing films of the year. I don't even know where to begin with the breakdown of this film. The film was funny but most of the funny highlights were shown in the trailer already. Actually every single funny part is already in the trailer. This movie was basically a comedy like the Adam Sandler films or the Scary movie movie series. It even features that ugly female actress that we only see in the Scary movie films. This movie has over the top racism and it attempts to make laughter out of real life terror scenarios. The jokes were EXTREMELY immature. There's even a few scenes where he belittles Civil Rights and makes a mockery of the "I Have a dream" speech with a distasteful version of it. The only people that will find true enjoyment in this film are people that like to be racist and sexist behind closed doors. This movie was definitely not what I expected at all, I was bored out of my mind and tired of the same corny racial jokes that I already seen in the movie Borat. If you are going to see this film, I will recommend waiting for it to premiere on cable television. The only interesting portion of this film was the soundtrack, the soundtrack alone will make you laugh more than the dry comedy of the actual movie. Overall, This movie is NOT Terry McFly Approved. The Dictator's official rating is "WACK SAUCE!". I can guarantee you that the media will be buzzing about the foolishness shown in this film over the weekend.

This Mother's Day Justin Bieber gave his mother one of the greatest gifts you could give a mom, a song thanking her for everything she's done for him. This song will not be featured on Justin's upcoming album, it's an exclusive song with all the proceeds going to charity.

All proceeds from the track benefit Bethesda Centre, the women's shelter in Ontario that provided aid to Justin's mother during her pregnancy. The facility is in danger of closing if it doesn't raise $1.5 million by May 31.

The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer #3

I previewed the first trailer a couple of months ago, my post at that time was filled with disappointment. My views have changed since I last wrote about The Amazing Spider-man, Marvel has cleaned it up very nicely and given this movie the treatment it deserves. The Amazing Spider-Man is the Spider-Man movie we've all been waiting to see, it's the first Spider-Man film directly inspired by the comic and animated series. What this means is that spiderman will act more like the neighborhood spidey we've all grown to love as a kid, he even makes his own web cartridges in the film.

This movie trailer premiered this weekend along with the Avengers movie. If you've watched the previews when you went to see Avengers then you've most likely seen this already. For those of you that like to show up to the theater late or use that time to buy snacks, here is the trailer for you to enjoy in it's entirety.

Video: "Lost In The World" By Kanye West

Filmmaker Ruth Hogben collaborates with award-winning musician Kanye West to create a film for his single Lost in the World. The song, which features Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, is taken from West's fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Movie Review: The Avengers

The wait is over! The long awaited Avengers movie is finally here! Just as expected, this movie is AMAZING! When the movie starts it seems to drag on a bit with a lack of action scenes, but trust me its well worth the wait, because the action goes into OVERLOAD as the film progresses. There's a lot of monumental battles that take place, I don't really want to spoil the film for those of you that didn't see it yet. All I can say is that Marvel Vs. Capcom & the animated film series fans will enjoy seeing these match ups take place in live action. I was actually surprised by how great the new Hulk actor (Mark Ruffalo) was in the film, I had my doubts but they surely are gone. The Avengers is one of those films that will make you laugh, clap, & cheer all at the same time. The Avengers is a MUST-SEE film, I rate this movie a 4 out of 5 stars, "Terry McFly Approved". I wish they would've somehow incorporated the Black Panther character into the movie like the animated series but I guess that's something I can hope for in the sequel.

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, & Hulkeye) to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.
