Introducing "Almost Home" The Web Series

Written by actress Reagan Gomez & directed by Matthew A. Cherry. "Almost Home" is about a woman named Lisa (Reagan Gomez) and her younger brother DeJuan. Lisa & Dejuan  move to L.A from Chicago after the passing of their mother. Lisa is a stylist and DeJuan is a musician. The show also features it's share of drama, including Lisa's crazy ex fiance randomly showing up in Los Angeles. Lisa and Dejuan are both forced to make changes and face their fears while ensuring that the family stays together. One of the standout elements of the show is that it features original music and unique fashion.

The show also features cameos from Jackie Long, Wesley Jonathan, & (the extremely beautiful) Denyce Lawton. The cast also includes indie musicians DeJuan Turrentine (who was featured on this site), Queen, and Ryan Hahn.

Reagan Gomez created and funded this series herself. She started an online campaign to raise money to continue filming additional episodes after she funded the first few.

"This project is so important to me. We NEED more women of color behind the scenes in Hollywood. And, if all goes well with this campaign, my ultimate goal, is to continue to use INDIE GO GO to create, original content for actors and actresses of color. A webseries now, a film later?" - Reagan Gomez

NYC DUNK XCHANGE: OCCUPY WALL STREET

Terry McFly with Victor Cruz (Co-Owner of Young Whales)
Last week (April 6th), was Dunk XChange's NYC Occupy Wall Street edition event at 25 Wall Street. This year it seemed as if there were a lot more pre-teens accompanied by mom and dad selling/trading their kicks. You didn't really catch a lot of classic throwbacks kicks this year, just more contemporary oddities like the Nike Air Foamposite One Galaxy, Yeezy's I & II or the Nike Marty McFly's. If you were on a search for Jordans that you couldn't find in any store you definitely would've found them yesterday as well. The event was hosted by, Puma from VH1's Black Ink, Gary Hughes Co-Owner of DunkXChange, and Jack Thriller celebrity interviewer. They had special guest, Victor Cruz in the building from the NY Giants representing his Young Whales line, who is also a good friend over at TerryMcfly.com. The Source magazine had set up shop , and so the did the lovely ladies of Strawberry Blunt, who also went around with strawberry cupcakes. There was a Crook's and Castle's fashion show, live performances by local artist, and live paintings including the very talented Dez of FlyKickz. We came across some hot up and coming brands yesterday like, Yours Truly, PRBLM CHILD NYC, and BLK. ID. Shoutouts to Media Hunter PR, Sam from Yourstruly.com, and Istanza from PRBLM Child NYC.

Video: "Lost" By Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean just released his music video for "Lost", a song off his grammy winning Channel Orange album. The video was directed by Francisco Soriano.

Movie Review: "42"

The movie "42" was  supposed to be about the life of Jackie Robinson, at least that's what was depicted on the commercials. IMDB even describes the movie storyline as "The life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey.", only half of this is true. I feel like there's some sort of deception going on here. The movie "42" didn't really feature much about Jackie's life story, it was almost entirely about his baseball career. Hence the movie title 42, the movie is titled 42 because in the negro leagues, players did not have numbers on their jerseys so Jackie Robinson considered it an honor and rewarding to wear a number on his back once he joined the major leagues.

Random: A Mom's Priceless Reaction To Wrestlemania

I have NEVERRRR seen someone's mom act like this about a wrestling match, LOL! I was pretty much in tears with laughter after viewing this. This is my goddaughter's grandmom reacting to the wrestler Alberto Del Rio defeating Jack Swagger at Wrestlemania. After viewing this, I think the WWE needs to hire momma to make a cameo or something. With all that excitement and shadow boxing, she definitely deserves something.

Music Video: "I.O.U." By Luke James

R&B singer Luke James has finally released the visual treatment for his latest song I.O.U. This is definitely one of my favorite songs from his catalog of music. I've heard him perform this track live 2 or 3 times within the last 2 weeks while attending concerts and events. I really hope that it gets the air play that it deserves because it's a hit!

This is a pretty cool video, you could just feel the New York City vibe while you're watching it. The style and the choice of video girl is so New York! ...Kudos to Luke for this video, job well done.

Janelle Monae recently shot her first ever Essence magazine cover. HipHollywood was on set to capture some behind-the-scenes footage and first looks of the shoot and the outfits that she wore. The singer branched off from her normal black and white uniform, and experimented with pieces that fit in with her love of the future.

NEW ZEALAND LINE I LOVE UGLY: LATEST RELEASE

I came across I Love Ugly last year sometime, and it always excites me to see what different ideas they come up with for their line. The line was established in 2007 by Valentin Ozich. He says, "I like to extract beauty out of what some would describe as 'ugly' - taking trends, putting a definitive twist on them, the new cool. It's quirky, and I'm not afraid to let what I design speak out.”. Check it out below.
