My Letter to 2012

Dear 2012,

This has been a very eventful year for us. This was the very first year that I blogged full time, this website was my entry level position job and my resume. They say if you truly believe in something then you have to be willing to dedicate yourself to it entirely and that's exactly what I did... and it surely did pay off. So many lessons learned and connections made. 2012 will definitely go down as the year that I created my foundation for what's to come.  And of course none of us in the tri-state area will ever forget that serving of humble pie that was served to us by Hurricane Sandy.

2012 was a year full of firsts here at TerryMcfly.com... Back in January 2012, the first partnership with General Motors began. I took my first trip to Los Angeles this year, which was also the completion of a childhood dream to visit the E3 expo. I got my first brand endorsement in 2012 (to be announced). I became an accredited media source in 2012. Attended Knicks Media Day for the first time in 2012. Made a cameo appearance on Vh1 2 or 3 times in 2012. The list just goes on and on.... and what's even more exciting is that a lot of the deals made in 2012 will carry over into 2013.

These past weeks I've received some very exciting news in regards to my future as a blogger. I don't really want to write too much while the ink is still wet but I will encourage all of you to continue following me on this journey...I promise you won't regret it. I've been meeting with a few insiders, designers, and celebrities to help me bring these dreams to the forefront.

2013 is MY year, I am claiming it! It's been a good one, thanks for the memories!

Farewell 2012. See you soon 2013!

-Terry

Behind The Scenes: TerryMcFly x Cadillac Photoshoot

These past few weeks I've put my blogging on hold for a few days to prepare and focus on a few projects. One of those highly anticipated projects was my DC area photoshoot featuring the 2013 Cadillac XTS. To ensure that this photoshoot was the best it could be, I formed a super team of creatives. This super team included ZSG Photography (zsgphoto.com), Stylist Marci Rodgers (styleproper.com), Make Up Artist Tiffany Fields (blushenbeauty.com), Model Alissa Bourne, and yours truly. My wardrobe was provided by Young Whales (youngwhalesbrand.com), it's from their latest collection which isn't available in stores yet. Alissa's wardrobe was provided by the D.Piper Twins (dpipertwins.com), it's from their Kastle Designs collection which can be purchased on their website.

We completed the photoshoot this weekend, as many of you following me on twitter or on facebook may already know. It was very cold but we had a blast and the results are phenomenal  While we prepare to unveil the final product, I want to share some of the behind the scenes photos with all of you.

Never had make-up done before so this was all new to me.

RECAP: WIRED Store Opening Night Party

Last night, WIRED magazine celebrated the grand opening of their annual holiday store in New York City. This particular event was invite only, open only to industry insiders and a few celebrity guests. QuestLove of the Roots was the special guest DJ, he had the venue rockin out for hours with every genre of music imaginable. The WIRED store was filled with tons of interactive gadgets that can't be seen anywhere else. Many of those cool items wont be shown here because I was too busy having an AMAZING time. I didn't get pics of everything but I did manage to get a few that are worthwhile, so check em out!

Say What? I can't hear you because Questlove has the speakers knockin!

Movie Review: The Silver Linings Playbook

This weekend I decided to see  a film that wasn't on my radar at all, "The Silver Linings Playbook". I knew absolutely nothing about this film, never even seen a trailer for it. I was told that it was a chick flick but it was actually much more deeper than that analysis. The Silver Linings Playbook is an everyone flick, it manages to balance just the right amount of humor and seriousness to please a variety of movie goers. The film has a nice all-star cast which includes Bradley Cooper, Robert Denero, Chris Tucker, & Jennifer Lawrence.

World Premiere: GTA V Trailer 2

Last week, Rockstar Games made a few surprise announcements about their highly anticipated game "Grand Theft Auto V". They promised all of us a brand new trailer that will give us a better vision of what to expect from the latest installment in their most popular franchise.

The first trailer from last year was a bit vague and it didn't really tell us much about the story.

Just as promised, here is the brand new trailer premiering simultaneously on TerryMcFly.com as it is on the official Rockstar site. Enjoy and Feel free to post your thoughts and comments about it.

Book of The Week: Shauna Jamieson Carty's "Praying In The Moment"

In the hopeful wake of the recent presidential election it can be easy to forget that there are those present in our country who believed that they would never be alive to see the election of an African-American president. The stories of these citizens, whom President Obama himself referred to as “an important part of the American narrative”, have been captured by journalist Shauna Jamieson Carty in her first non-fiction effort entitled “Praying In The Moment: Reflections On The Election of President Barack Obama”.

Startling tales of experiencing discrimination and dealing with disadvantage are relayed earnestly in the interviews of members of the historical Second Baptist Church in Roselle, New Jersey. One interviewee vividly recounts viewing a horrific act of violence committed against her family as a small child in the south and admits to fervently praying for the then President-Elect’s safety prior to his inauguration.

"Skyfall" Movie Review

Earlier this week, I attended the premiere of the new James Bond film Skyfall (In theaters this Friday in the US). A big shoutout to the great folks at Cadillac & GM Northeast for inviting me to see the film early. I knew that the new Cadillac vehicles were the kind of cars built for Mr. Bond, anything less would be uncivilized.

Terry's Big Orlando Adventure Part 4: Epcot, Malls, & Raves

I've been here in Orlando for just about a week now. I've been having a blast at all the disney parks but in order to get the true experience I think I need to venture out and explore a few more locales. There were still 2 more disney parks I have yet to visit in the 2013 Cadillac ATS, those parks were Epcot and Magic Kingdom. I figured I would hit up those two parks and then enjoy some of the night life festivities in the area with my former Orlando friends & colleagues.

Terry's Big Orlando Adventure Part 3: Disney's Animal Kingdom

Today's journey was a meaningful one, it was my first return back to the place where I would spend most of my days hard at work as a college intern from New Jersey. Disney's Animal Kingdom aka DAK as we used to call it. In 2006, I worked here as a member of the main entrance park operations crew. It was going to be an interesting experience to finally explore this park completely as a guest 6 years later. Interesting indeed it was, especially with the 2013 Cadillac ATS leading the way.

Terry's Big Orlando Adventure Part 2: Disney's Hollywood Studios

I started my day eager to finally test out the 2013 Cadillac ATS on the roads of Orlando. The first stop on this big adventure was Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney's Hollywood Studios is actually one of the most exciting parks at Walt Disney World, it's the park for those of us that love to watch action films.

Terry's Big Orlando Adventure Part 1: The Arrival

It feels like I havent blogged in forever, it's not that I've become lazy...There's just been so much to blog about this week that I've become slightly overwhelmed, but trust it's something that I can handle.  I'm currently on an Orlando adventure and while I'm here I will share with you a few live photos from the excitement so far. There will also be updates from New York Comic Con later on this week, it was tough being in two states at the exact same time, I really do need to find a way to clone myself. The Orlando adventure will be broken down into a 4 part series.

Here's what has happened so far in Terry's Big Orlando Adventure. I boarded my Jet Blue flight Friday morning. While on the plane I had the pleasure of viewing Steve Urkle do the Urkle Dance for about 10 minutes -_- LOL. That was an interesting diversion from the crying baby and parents that I was forced to sit next to for the duration of my flight.

Nike ID NBA 2k13 shoes

Over the past week, we've all been preoccupied with the NBA 2k13 phenomenon. I am guilty of it too, this game is simply amazing... I guess that's why I haven't been blogging much lol. There's tons of great new features in the game this year but here's one feature you may not know about yet.

When you create a sneaker in the 2k13 My Career mode, you can actually go online and order the shoe you just created from Nike! This concept is amazing, it's features like this that sets NBA 2k13 apart from other sports game. Check out the video below about the game's Nike integration.

Mixtape: "The Cool Cafe" By Jaden Smith

Earlier this week, Jaden Smith (son of the fresh prince Will Smith) released his debut mixtape exhibiting his rap music. Just like his dad, Jaden makes good curse-free hip-hop that relates to his generation. This mixtape is definitely worth a listen, I think we just might have the next generation of The Fresh Prince. Jaden's music has that early hip-hop vibe to it with new school lyrics. The Cool Cafe is "Terry McFly Approved".

Listen to the Cool Cafe in it's entirety below and feel free to share your thoughts about it in the comments section.

Knicks Media Day 2012-13

Usually mondays are reserved for music here on TerryMcfly.com, but that all changed when I received a very interesting and unexpected invitation yesterday evening. The New York Knicks (My FAVORITE team) invited me to attend their Media Day, which signifies the official start of the team's 2012-13 NBA Pre-Season. The press conference style event took place at the Knicks training camp facility. All of the major sports media outlets were there in attendance, it was truly an honor for a young journalist like me to be amongst all the veterans. The entire group of press in attendance took turns asking questions to Knicks players and coaches.

This event really made my day, as a fan it was truly a once in a lifetime kind of experience for me. I managed to write down a few quotes from a few players and Coach Woodson so that you can get an idea of where we're headed this season. Check out the photos and quotes below, as usual it was all captured on my trusty iPhone 4S.

"The Coolest" By Jaden Smith

It appears that the son of the fresh prince is looking to carry on his father's legacy. I think the song and video are cool, I just dont get why he appears to be high off something as he raps. Maybe thats the Cool or maybe he's just high off life. This was much better than I expected after seeing him rap with Justin Bieber on stage a while back, his skill has progressed. I will be looking out for his upcoming mixtape, I can't wait to see the level of creativity when Willow Smith gets on a track with him. Who knows?...maybe we will see a track with Jaden, Willow, and their father Will.

Book of The Week: Tiffany Aliche's "The One Week Budget"

While other budgetary guides are laden with hard to decipher industry jargon, "The One Week Budget" isn't terminology heavy at all. This manual on how to put together a plan for fiscal stability promotes financial literacy in a way that is both concise and capable by utilizing direct language. Author Tiffany Aliche's (aka The Budgetnista) goal is to present the information in a way that her readers can not only understand but relate to ... and she accomplishes that.

Practical tips throughout the chapters suggest real ways to implement the strategies outlined and the book staves off monotony by being infused with personality.

Video Premiere: "I Don't Care" By Elle Varner

A few weeks ago, I tweeted Elle Varner asking her about the video for one of my favorite songs on her album "I Don't Care" and she replied that filming for it has began. And here it is, FInally the premiere of "I Don't care". The video has a powerful message, it kind of incites the feelings and emotions you would get from watching one of those old school spike lee films. It reminds me of that controversial Marsha Ambrosius music video too, great job Elle! I will be looking out for the video for "Stop The Clock" now, which is my other favorite song from the album

Music Monday: The Reevolution By Ian Grey

Ian Grey (The artist formerly known as Imagine) has finally released his long anticipated project titled The Reevolution. A few months ago we received a small preview of the album with the Reevolution EP, but now the finished product is finally here and it's definitely worth a listen. The sound of this new album is like the melody of the weeknd mixed with the deep emotion of Frank Ocean. I think the coolest thing about this album is that all ages can listen to it, you dont have to worry about it being too profane for your parents or kids... the essence of what music is.

Listen to the The Reevolution here on TerryMcFly.com and if you like what you hear then feel free to download it for FREE.

Supra Summer Tour 2012 Recap - NJ Skateshop

Last week (Aug. 28), The Supra brand skate team made a stop in Hoboken, New Jersey as part of their 2012 Supra Summer Tour. Skate legends such as Stevie Williams and Erik Ellington were amongst the pros headlining the Supra Tour. This event was pretty awesome, it was much more than I expected. The Supra team is very humble, they treated all of their fans as if they were peers and friends, which is very admirable. In the usual Terry McFly fashion, I will recap the event with a photographic timeline shot directly from my iphone.

Rockstar Games Max Payne 3 Multiplayer Event Recap

Rockstar Games invited me to be a special guest at their Max Payne 3 Multiplayer session, which took place live on the rooftop of their NYC offices. In true Rockstar fashion , the invitation was extremely limited. There was only about 5 special guests and the rest in attendance was Rockstar staff. Rockstar supplied us with tons of food and beverages, what a great way to end the summer with a rooftop gaming BBQ. I enjoyed playing Max Payne 3 online with Max Payne fans from all over the world and the skilled Rockstar game developers.

New Video: "Bye Baby" By Nas

Nas releases the video for my favorite song on his "Life Is Good" album. The track "Bye Baby" samples the classic "Goodbye Love" song by the new jack swing group GUY. This track is probably one of the most heartfelt songs on Nas' album so the video definitely had to be just as powerful. Check it out as Nas reenacts a little bit of what he experienced during his troubled marriage.

Book of The Week: Jody Duncan Jesser & Janine Pourroy's "The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy"

Not just for film buffs or comic book aficionados “The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy” is a crisp and vibrant behind the scenes look at the telling of Christopher Nolan's interpretation of the classic tale of Batman. The images shown on the glossy pages will appeal to anyone remotely interested in the saga. And the thoughtful attention to detail show how Nolan and his staff created character driven scenes not only through the stunning  previously unreleased photography but through comprehensive explanation of concept as well.

It may be visually striking but this is a far cry from an overpriced picture book for one’s coffee table. It truly explains the process of executing not only the director’s vision but that of everyone involved. From the casting to the construction of intricate sets to the designing of a fresh yet functional Bat mobile, each challenge reveals just how much time, energy, and resources went into producing such well received and widely respected films.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Photoshoot

A few days ago, I embarked on a journey across the DC area. I made it my priority to go visit the newly constructed Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. While in DC, my amazing super friend Lauren Urban (of www.DestinationPlanning.com) and her fiancee Zack Glenn (of ZSG Photography) suggested that we set up a photoshoot. I suggested that we use a location that really inspires me, thus we have the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. It was cool, this entire process was the perfect dedication to Dr.King. A young african american male and his caucasian friends together at the Dr.King memorial creating art, it doesn't get any better than that! Zack is an amazing photographer, he is now the official go-to photographer for TerryMcfly.com... we also collaborated on a "Georgetown" photoshoot. (which is posted on the Facebook page)

For the first few photos, I selected one of my favorite quotes from Dr.King as the back drop.

The Costume Institute Presents “Impossible Conversations”

Aptly titled impossible conversations this year’s offering from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is a study of the similarities between the works of famed Italian designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. Garments and accessories from each designer are showcased in relation to the work of the other. In “Waist Up/ Waist Down” for example Prada’s affinity for skirts and shoes are showcased while Schiaparelli’s focuses on jackets and hats due to the restrictions of the time period in which she designed.

Book of the Week: Victor Cruz's "Out of the Blue"

Expelled from college twice for academic reasons unlikely NFL star Victor recounts his journey to salsa dance fame in "Out of the blue”.  Cruz shares his personal experiences from living above a bodega and Tae kwon do studio in Patterson, New Jersey to playing in the 2012 Super Bowl game, and Peter Schrager assists him in constructing them into a narrative that is both believable and interesting.

Surprisingly this autobiography is delightfully lacking in self-indulgence as Cruz does not blame his humble upbringing for the many mistakes he made throughout his journey. The New York Giants wide receiver details his tales of misguided arrogance and academic strife without excuses.  He acknowledges his dissents into the many pitfalls for a student athlete with an earnestness that is refreshing.

While Cruz does speak actively of his own determination to avoid succumbing to defeat he does not fail to shed light on the community that thrust him into success. His family, friends, mentors, and the various roles they played in his life are all highlighted. And the charming story of how he met and fell in love with, his longtime girlfriend and the mother of his only child, Elaina Watley is relayed with a hilarious lack of shame (Cruz admits Watley’s resemblance to model Kimora Lee Simmons played a huge role in his attraction to her).

Music Monday: "Enough Said" By Aaliyah Feat. Drake

Drake has released a track from the upcoming post-humous Aliyah album that he will be producing. This song sounds like a Drake song with Aaliyah vocals, which is pretty much exactly what it is right? I really like this song a lot, sounds pretty good... but I'm not sure if I like listening to new Aaliyah music without the input of Timbaland & Missy Elliot. Check out this new track and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

NBA 2k13 Executive Produced By Jay-Z

Here is the first trailer for the highly anticipated NBA 2k13 video game, apparently it's also the announcement of Jay-Z as the executive producer. I was a bit confused at first because I didn't know Jay-Z was in the gaming business. This shall be interesting! They kept the game behind closed doors at E3 so there's not really much info about Jay-Z's role in production yet.

"The Dark Knight Rises" Movie Review

The waiting and speculation is over, one of the most anticipated films of the year is finally here. The question is "Was it worth all the hype?" &  also "Is it better than the Avengers?" The answers to those questions will certainly be answered within my review of The Dark Knight Rises. This movie was nearly sold out a month before it even hit theaters.

Book of The Week: Don Winslow's "The Kings of Cool"

With a star studded cast and an Academy Award winning director the adaption of Don Winslow’s novel “Savages” showed why the fiction writer with the cult like following has caught the attention of the main stream literary world. The film like the novel told the story of three California natives who enter the marijuana business and go up against a Mexican drug cartel with vigor. But while it served up excitement it failed to answer the question on the minds of readers and moviegoers across the nation. Just how did Ben, Chon, and O become “three people in love”? That question is answered in Winslow’s “The Kings of Cool”.

Supra Footwear For Kids

SUPRA is proud to offer the favorite footwear of some of the world’s top athletes and celebrities in a new collection designed specifically for kids. The kids’ collection (for ages three and up) launches with four styles that have been engineered for fun: the Skytop, Vaider, Cuban, and Weston are available in a full range of kids’ sizes (11-6) and come in an exciting array of new colorways and dynamic designs that are comfortable to wear and constructed to last.

The Supra Ellington

What sets it apart,” Erik Ellington said about his sixth signature shoe from SUPRA, “is if you walk into a store today, pretty much every shoe looks like a slip-on. [The Ellington] has that feeling of being simple, but at the same time it’s got a lot more technical features.”

The technical features of the Ellington begin with the lightweight, full length SUPRAFOAM midsole that is thicker in the heel for impact protection and thinner at the toe for better board feel. It rests upon a rubber outsole with sidewalls in the toe and ollie area. The mid top collar, as well as the molded, internal ankle pods provide support and a snug, comfortable fit while retaining movement. A SUPRAFOAM footbed, with mesh sock liner, gives comfort and impact protection. The herring bone pattern in the sole’s high friction areas supplies superior grip.

Movies: Craigslist Joe

Here's a very interesting documentary coming out in August that many of you may not know about. This is a documentary produced by "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis. Craigslist Joe is about a guy who lives off craigslist for one month with no money or contact with anyone he knows. Check out the trailer:

In a time when America's economy and sense of community were crumbling, one guy left everything behind--to see if he could survive solely on the support of the 21st century's new town square: Craigslist. It was in this climate that 29-year-old Joseph Garner cut himself off from everyone he knew and everything he owned, to embark on a bold adventure. Armed with only a laptop, cell phone, toothbrush, and the clothes on his back--alongside the hope that community was not gone but just had shifted--Joseph began his journey. For 31 December days and nights, everything in his life would come from the Craigslist website. From transportation to food, from shelter to companionship, Joe would depend on the generosity of people who had never seen him and whose sole connection to him was a giant virtual swap meet. Would America help Joe? Could he survive with nothing, apart from the goodwill of others?

Being a fan of documentaries, I am definitely going to check this out. It looks like an enjoyable film to me. Not sure If I will go see it in a theater because it will be released the same day on itunes and Video on Demand.

What do you think of Craigslist Joe? Feel free to comment with your thoughts.

World Premiere: "Cool Story McFly" By Bless McFly (FEATURE)

If you've been following me on any of the social networks then you may have seen me posting photos from a music video shoot last month. Before my journey to Los Angeles, I collaborated with Jersey rapper Bless McFly to do a hip-hop music video with an old school melody. I'm not much of a rapper so I had to settle for just a guest appearance LOL. In the video, I take on the role as a member of the "McFly Gang". The video takes place inside of the McFly hideout, a place where we meet up to socialize and strategize our plans.

My wardrobe was provided by the Wagon Boutique and the model with me was also wearing clothing provided by the boutique. By the way, the beautiful model next to me is Turcois Ominek. We had a great time shooting this video, and it was my first time shooting a music video by the way. Check out the video below and a few photos of our wardrobe..... feel free to post your comments.

New Music: "Sweet Life" By Frank Ocean

Here's a new track from Frank Ocean, this track is titled "Sweet Life" and it is co-produced by Pharrell Williams. This track is from his highly anticipated Channel Orange album. Frank Ocean shows that his personal preferences have nothing to do with his ability to create great music. This is a cool laid back track, as long as the music is the same I will still continue to be the same Frank Ocean fan I have always been. Check out the song and feel free to leave a comment below:

Movie Review: The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man was a pretty awesome film. They rebooted the live action film series to make it more like the actual comic book series. The film is pretty long compared to the other spider-man films, The Amazing Spider-Man is about 2 hours & 16 minutes long.  The storyline had very brief similarity to the other movies but not even enough to say it was a copy or even similar.

Music Monday: "I Am Me" By Willow Smith

Willow Smith premiered a new video last night during the BET Awards 12 Pre-Show. This video would seem rather unusual & out of the ordinary to some of the BET audience but to me it looks like a perfect fit for the MTV crowd. The video features Willow Smith in various parts of Soho New York expressing her artsy hippie side proudly. The video received lots of confused reactions on twitter after it premiered. Personally, If I had a 11 year old daughter, I would want her to act more like Willow Smith instead of like these little girls wearing colored wigs and singing about expensive designer bags. Being 11 is about having fun and being a kid, props to Willow for understanding that. It sure looks like she is enjoying herself in this video and thats what's up! Check out the video below and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Monster Inspiration Rooftop BBQ & Pool Party

Earlier this week, Monster hosted a rooftop party at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York City. This was a pretty swanky party too, not the basic open bar launch party. This party had food, an open bar, and a swimming pool....they even provided trunks and bikinis with towels for the guests to use. Of course the coolest part of all this is that it was on a ROOFTOP in Manhattan, you can't get any cooler than that!
