Music Monday: Meet "Tha Boogie"

As I was browsing the web this morning, I came across an interesting group on rollingstone.com. There's a contest taking place right now that allows users to vote for the next cover artist. As I browsed through the list of rock groups, there was one punk/alternative group that caught my interest. I was really intrigued because they looked like me, they're young, african american, and stylish. I had to find out more about them. Here's their bio:

Think of Lauryn Hill backed by No Doubt with Andre 3000 as the maestro---that’s Tha Boogie. The Rancho Cucamongian trio has admirable musical talents coupled with fly urban originality that fuels them to write, produce, record, and arrange songs that have no boundaries. They remain inspired by people who are not afraid to be or do anything different.

The unique style of each member compliments the other as they take listeners on an experimental musical journey chock-full of genres such as pop, hip-hop, r&b and alternative soul.
Tha Boogie represents:

Korus (Singer/songwriter); with her corky but edgy sense of style and sultry voice adds spice to the group's vision and overall sense of direction which dubs her as "The Cherry on Top." The songbird has an audacious drive which enables her to help craft out-the-box lyrics and tackle new projects such as learning how to play the bass guitar.

Lejin (Singer/ Music Producer/Arranger): a producer who’s considered a prodigy because he’s been creating music since the age of 12 and has been a drummer since he was 4. The Austin, Texas transplant not only sets the foundation for the group’s sound with his production, he lends his gospel-soul tinged vocals to the group’s eccentric sound.

Nu School (Singer/Songwriter/Rapper/Vocal Producer and Arranger): snagged his B.A. in Music Business, has been writing songs since the age of 9. The crooner has an ear for melodies and lyrical content which is the glue that gels group's overall sound.

The bandmates were influenced by the dynamic work of The Super Friends clique (Timbaland, Missy, Playa, Aaliyah, Ginuwine and Magoo), a musical think-tank of artists, producers and songwriters who crafted chart-topping hits together. So, they decided they liked the model and would embark on configuring one themselves-calling it: Tha Boogie Down Movement.

What has brought them this far is their camaraderie, stubborn will to create limitless feel good music and to thrive despite of naysayers. Their goal is to stay true to themselves and that is what caught the attention of award winning singer/songwriter/producer Raphael Saadiq. He signed them to his label Velma Records and brought them along as the opening act for the last leg of his 2009 Winter Tour.
Tha Boogie also has mainstream appearances on Nas’ video "Hero" and Raphael Saadiq's single "Love that Girl".
Tha Boogie recently released EP, “Love Tha Boogie, Volume. 1(Steal That Sh*t),” NOW AVAILABLE on iTunes.

The Album "Long Time Know See-LTKS" to be released top of 2011.

Rip The Runway 2011 Interview: Wiz Khalifa

Moments before his performance at BET’s Rip the Runway, rapper Wiz Khalifa sat down backstage with style maven Terry Mcfly to discuss his style. During the interview Wiz also subtly tells us why his upcoming album is titled “Rolling Papers”.

Terry: How would you best describe your style?
Wiz: Versatile, I switch it up a lot, simple though, basic

Terry: Do you consider yourself a trendsetter?
Wiz: No, well yea, people say I am so I guess I gotta go off what they say, but I just wear whatever I want

Terry: Do you wear prescription glasses or are those glasses just a fashion statement?
Wiz: These are totally prescription, yea I’m blind

Terry: What would be your go-to sneaker or shoe?
Wiz: Chuck Taylors

Terry: Name 3 must-have items that you would pack into your backpack
Wiz: A hoody, a pair of 501s, and….. does it have to be just clothes?
Terry: No, it can be whatever items you want
Wiz: Oh, then it would be some papers and a grinder, that’s 4

Terry: Describe the Pittsburgh style
Wiz: It varies, you know what I’m sayin, it switches up….you got people that are into the skater fashion, you got the urban crowd as well…then you got the preppy crowd too. It switches up, everybody’s doin their own thing.

Terry: Which fashion items do you love to see on a woman and why?
Wiz: I like how a chick’s shoes look, I like a chick with pretty feet. The shoes make their feet look awesome or maybe their legs may look awesome because of their shoes. Even though the shoes may not feel good to them, they always look good on them.

Terry:  Do you prefer sneakers or heels on a woman?
Wiz: I don’t have a preference, you know its whatever. There could be sneaker days and heel days.

Terry: One last question for you Wiz, Have you got any new tattoos lately and if so where?
Wiz: Yea, I have! I’m always getting new tattoos but I totally stopped explaining and talking about my tattoos. Mainly because it’s become such a fad that I don’t even explain em no more. If people see them when they pop up then they can catch a glimpse, just know that I’m always gonna be gettin em.

Terry: Thank you for your time and Nice to Meet you!
Wiz: Thank you sir, Great Meeting you too Pimp!

Check out Wiz Khalifa's performance on BET's Rip The Runway on March 21 at 10PM!

Rip The Runway 2011 Interview: Miguel

During BET’s Rip The Runway, R&B recording artist, Miguel had a brief discussion with style maven Terry Mcfly about fashion. Miguel gave us a full breakdown of his style and fashion influences. Miguel explains in detail why he likes particular pieces and what he loves most about a woman’s style. As expected, Miguel is very interesting person when it comes to fashion.

Terry: You have a very unique futuristic sense of style. Who or what inspires your style?
Miguel: My style is inspired by light, my style is inspired by movies like the Fifth Element, Blade Runner, and like-minded individuals that I got to connect and build with along the way. Musicians of course, all of this comes together to help me define what it is that aesthetically represents Miguel.

Terry: Do you ever have any custom pieces specifically crafted for you?
Miguel: I always have custom pieces crafted for me
Terry: Do you have anything in particular that you get crafted?
Miguel: A lot of my jackets are custom made, I have a few pairs of pants that are custom made, I’m actually working on custom accessories, collaborating for that as well as shoes

Terry: Do you consider yourself a trendsetter?
Miguel: I absolutely do consider myself a trendsetter, I think it’s just the mentality of being a leader as oppose to following trends, although I do like to incorporate trends that resonate with my vision, so I’m not completely rogue or ignorant to what is here now. It’s just about finding the pieces that represent me the best.

Terry: Who do you think is the best dressed R&B singer in the industry?
Miguel: The best dressed R&B singer in the industry, hmm… well aside from myself, just kidding… A friend of mine, Usher, happens to have a really fashion forward eye to be honest with you, I think his travels have really rounded out his perspective on fashion. I definitely shoot a peace sign to my man Usher, he’s definitely on point.

Terry: We know you wear a lot of sunglasses, What is your go-to pair of sunglasses.
Miguel: Wayfarer, it’s always Wayfarers. Anything with a bold and strong frame because I happen to have a wide face. I like the frames kinda square, I think that shape happens to compliment my face.

Terry: Do you have a lot of shoes and sneakers?
Miguel: Absolutely!
Terry: What is your go-to shoe or sneaker?
Miguel: Android Homme, anything Android Homme does it for me.

Terry: Which city is your favorite city to shop in and why?
Miguel: I grew up in Los Angeles so it’s kind of a toss-up between Los Angeles and New York. I haven’t been to Tokyo, London or anywhere like that yet so it might change.

Terry: Could you tell me a little bit about Cali Swag?
Miguel: California Swag, well I think the appeal is the sense of being relaxed and effortless in everything you do.

Terry: Which fashion item do you love the most on a woman and why?
Miguel: The legging, because they’re so form fitting, it really accentuates some of my favorite pieces on a woman’s physique.

Terry: On a woman, Do you prefer sneakers or heels?
Miguel: It depends, I like both but there’s nothing sexier than a woman in heels

Terry: well that’s all the questions I have today regarding style , It was great meeting you
Miguel: Thank you, nice meeting you as well

AMC Dine-In Theater Review

This weekend, I finally had the opportunity to check out the new AMC Dine in Theater, I was completely blown away by this experience. When you first walk in, its like a 5 star hotel lobby. There's a bar, couches, and flat screens all over the place broadcasting the sports games. The tickets are sold through digital machines, the staff is completely dedicated to servicing the customers.

The moment I walked into the theater was when the true experience began. The suite had reserved seating, there was a woman in there to escort you to your seat with complimentary gourmet popcorn. The rows were stadium seats separated by a 4 foot wall so you couldn't see who was below or even behind you. The seats were leather with an electronic recliner and food tray. The menus, ketchup, and utensils were all directly next to your seat with a button to call the waiter.

I was impressed by the food selection, it was actually REAL food prepared by a chef. I ordered a milkshake with mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and even that simple combination was remarkable. The movie I watched was "The Adjustment Bureau", I can't tell you much about the movie because I spent most of my time sleeping in that comfy recliner lol. This trip was more about the experience and not the movie so its definitely worth all the money. I would recommend everyone go experience this, I've posted a few locations below.

NOTE:  My Review was from the "Cinema Suites" experience, not the "Fork & Dine"

 ****Press Release****

All New Design is Thinner, Lighter & Faster with FaceTime, Smart Covers & 10 Hour Battery

SAN FRANCISCO-March 2, 2011-Apple® today introduced iPad™ 2, the next generation of its magical device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading ebooks and much more. iPad 2 features an entirely new design that is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter than the original iPad, while maintaining the same stunning 9.7-inch LED-backlit LCD screen. iPad 2 features Apple's new dual-core A5 processor for blazing fast performance and stunning graphics and now includes two cameras, a front-facing VGA camera for FaceTime® and Photo Booth®, and a rear-facing camera that captures 720p HD video, bringing the innovative FaceTime feature to iPad users for the first time. Though it is thinner, lighter, faster and packed with new features, iPad 2 still delivers up to 10 hours of battery life* that users have come to expect. iPad 2 is available in black or white, features models that run on AT&T's and Verizon's 3G networks, and introduces the innovative iPad 2 Smart Cover in a range of vibrant polyurethane and rich leather colors.

"With more than 15 million iPads sold, iPad has defined an entirely new category of mobile devices," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "While others have been scrambling to copy the first generation iPad, we're launching iPad 2, which moves the bar far ahead of the competition and will likely cause them to go back to the drawing boards yet again."

With the new front and rear cameras, iPad 2 users can now make FaceTime calls to millions of iPhone® 4, iPod touch® and Mac® users so they can see family and friends anywhere there is Wi-Fi. Photo Booth lets you apply fun visual effects, including eight photo special effects like Squeeze, Twirl and Kaleidoscope, to photos captured by either camera.

iPad 2 comes with iOS 4.3, the latest version of the world's most advanced mobile operating system, with new features including faster Safari® mobile browsing performance; iTunes® Home Sharing; enhancements to AirPlay®;** the choice to use the iPad side switch to either lock the screen rotation or mute audio; and Personal Hotspot to share an iPhone 4 cellular data connection over Wi-Fi.*** Additional iPad 2 features include a built-in gyro for advanced gaming; HSUPA support for enhanced 3G upload speeds on iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G on AT&T, and HDMI Video Mirroring that lets users mirror their iPad screen on an HDTV using an optional adaptor.

The innovative new iPad 2 Smart Cover provides protection for the iPad screen while maintaining its thin and lightweight profile. Designed with a unique self-aligning magnetic hinge that makes it easy to attach and remove, the new iPad 2 Smart Cover automatically wakes iPad 2 when it's opened and puts it to sleep when it's closed, and has a soft microfiber lining to help keep the screen clean. The Smart Cover also folds into a stand for typing or viewing videos and is available in vibrant polyurethane for $39 or rich leather for $69 in a range of colors, including a (PRODUCT) RED one which helps support the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Apple also introduced two new apps: iMovie® and GarageBand® for iPad, both available on the App Store℠ for just $4.99 each. With iMovie, iPad 2 users can shoot and edit videos right on their iPad and post their movies to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and their MobileMe℠ gallery; watch them on their iPod®, iPhone or iPad; as well as view them on their HDTV using AirPlay and Apple TV®. GarageBand turns your iPad into a collection of touch instruments and 8-track recording studio, allowing you to perform with onscreen keyboards, guitars, drums and basses using multi-touch gestures–even if you don't play a musical instrument.

iPad 2 runs almost all of the over 350,000 apps available on the App Store and there are more than 65,000 native iPad apps available from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. The iTunes Store gives iPad users access to the world's most popular online music, TV and movie store with a catalog of over 14 million songs, over 50,000 TV episodes and over 10,000 films including over 3,500 in stunning high definition video.
