Video: Atrium X Kith Unveiling

A few days ago, TerryMcfly.com was invited to attend the unveiling of the new Atrium X Kith location in Brooklyn. Everything was amazing, even the invitation. They provided party buses to transport us from the Atrium Soho location to the actual party in Brooklyn. It was a mobile party going to a party, how cool is that? The venue was filled with plenty of big names from within the industry. DJ Clark Kent was on the 1's and 2's, Ryan Leslie performed some of his unreleased music for us, and there was a mini fashion show. To sum it all up, This was EPIC!!!!!!

Artist Spotlight: Jay Saint

A few weeks ago I was contacted by an upcoming artist asking me to listen to his latest single. As you all know, I only feature artists that I actually enjoy listening to, which means if you wanna be featured here you gotta have talent. I listened to the track that I was sent and I must've enjoyed what I heard because I'm sharing it with all of you.

Ladies and Gentleman, Meet Jay Saint!

Jay's latest single is titled "Heart on a Tight Rope" which is from his latest mixtape project "Amour Et La Guerre", which can be listened to and downloaded for free below.

Bio

Edgy beats, very catchy hooks, great verse and rhythms, an absolutely skilled and gifted Singer Songwriter, Jay Saint is an all around Artist. Jay’s music is perfection with the amazing ability to cross over from commercial Hip-Hop to Edgy Electro Pop/R&B and back. Jay Saint reveals a sensitive side of him with subtle messages and textures mixed in - all arranged perfectly to achieve maximum results.

With values originated from there Haitian & Dominican backgrounds, Jay’s parents had the right idea. They kept his mind focused on academics and athletics. Both students and faculty that had the opportunity to witness Jay at work, were amazed with his talents. Jay’s talent was a reality to others, but it wasn’t to him. Life growing up was challenging, both personally and financially. He paid and paved his own way through college, receiving a full scholarship to play football for Elizabeth City State University. Through all this, his creative mind never stopped writing music, producing music or performing music. In early 2009, the doors opened for the driven star. He was noticed by an A&R from Bad Boy records, which
gaining him a position to write for Bad Boy's elite acts at that time (Danity Kane, Day 26, Donnie Klang). Writing a full year for the label Jay branched off and decided to make is name a brand. Jay has been performing in NY elite club, building a loyal fan base that adores what he stands for, "Work hard Feel Good".

He shows a consistency in style, performance and all around talent which is a mark of a true Recording Artist. Jay's music catches your attention and holds it for a long time. There aren’t many artists that can do that anymore. You can listen to one song and lose your attention quickly. That beat, the rhythm and that fresh new tone keeps you captivated right from the start. His alternative style of Pop/R&B mix in with is unique Island tone, singing messages that are inspiring is what the industry needs. Being compared and called a young "Akon", Jay strives to be the first Jay Saint. That position is definitely up for grabs. He's humbling personality, undeniable talent and drive for sucess, without doubt makes him destined for greatness.

New York Comic Con 2011: Max Payne 3

During New York Comic Con last weekend, Rockstar Games invited me to check out two of their new titles. I got to explore two levels of Max Payne 3 and play the new Grand Theft Auto game for the ipod/ipad. They wouldn't allow me to take photos of the new GTA game but they did however provide a pretty cool trailer of Max Payne 3, created entirely from in-game footage, to share with all of you. Check out the trailer below and comment:

Max Payne 3 takes place several years after the events of Max Payne 2. Still haunted by his past, Max leaves the NYPD and the United States to take a job in executive security and protection at the suggestion of Raul Passos, a former acquaintance from his early days on the police force.
As a first in the series, Max Payne 3 will feature a fully realized multiplayer component that will fit seamlessly alongside the single player game.

DMC Announces All-Electric DeLorean For 2013

It seems like everything from the Back to the Future movie is making a comeback after the recent success of the Nike Air Mags. Personally I'm excited about it, I just wish I had the funds to afford all of it... LOL. Maybe I should start saving up for a hoverboard now because I'm sure that's coming out soon. Check out the new electric DeLorean below, photos and release info are from Autoblog.com

Given the car's iconic classic/futuristic status, it's no surprise that the DeLorean DMC-12 is a popular car for DIY electric car conversions. That an honest-to-goodness official DeLorean EV is coming from Humble, Texas' reborn DeLorean Motor Company itself, though? That we did not see coming. It makes sense, though. If you're gonna build a time machine electric car, why not do it with some style?

Announced Friday night at the DMC Texas Open House, DMC said it plans to work with electric car startup Epic EV to get an all-electric DMC-12 into production by 2013. Epic is the company started by Aptera co-founder Chris Anthony that is working on the Torq and Amp vehicles. Early reports say the Electric DeLorean will have a maximum speed of 125 miles per hour and offer 260 horsepower for something like $90,000-100,000. The gullwing doors should remain, but we're not sure where the motor will go (the original DeLorean used a rear-mounted engine), let alone the battery pack. This isn't the first time a DeLorean with an alternative powertrain has been talked about. Before his death in 2005, John DeLorean hinted that a hydraulic hybrid drivetrain might find a home in a relaunched DMC-12. That never happened, of course.

Specific technical details on the upcoming DeLorean Electric are sparse, but we're pretty sure it will be able to recharge its 1.21 gigawatt-hour battery instantly when connected to the right power source. You know, until the inevitable Mr. Fusion model gets the green light.

Terry Mcfly Goes to New York Comic Con 2011

Last weekend, I decided to step outside the box and go experience something new. I went to Comic Con at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City, and what an experience it was. This was my first time attending a Comics Convention. I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of press outlets that reached out to me for coverage, but I definitely felt valued and welcomed. Comic Con is one of those places where the attendees are just as exciting as the actual exhibitions, check out a few of the photos below and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Throughout my 3 day journey of Comic Con, there were 3 companies that really stood out and made my experience worth while. I would like to thank Capcom, Rockstar Games, and DC Comics for the unique experiences. Capcom invited me to all their events and even gave me a 1 on 1 tour of every single game title at their booth. I got to play every new game they had to offer with no line at all with a developer by my side to describe what's going on. Every exhibitor can learn a thing or two from the great folks at Capcom.

The greatest thing about Comic Con is the free swag. I ended up leaving with about 5 new t-shirts, too many posters, and way too much gum.... LOL. This was a great experience, I made alot of new friends in an industry that I initially had no access to. I don't know if I'll ever go to one of these events wearing a costume but I will definitely be in attendance next year.

BET Exclusive: DC Comics Announces Marc Bernardin as Static Shock Writer

Earlier this week, I was contacted by DC Comics with the offer to write an exclusive for BET before it was announced at Comic Con. Initially I was excited because it would be my first ever exclusive editorial. Once I found out which comic it was, I became ecstatic! Static Shock has been my favorite super hero since I was a teenager. Check out the interview below in it's original form and head over to BET.com to view it after it was edited.

BET EXCLUSIVE: DC Comics Announces Marc Bernardin As Static Shock Writer
By Terry Mcfly

New York-based writer Marc Bernardin will be announced as the new ongoing writer for STATIC SHOCK, the Harlem-based superhero in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.
Bernardin is also known for his work on THE HIGHWAYMEN and THE AUTHORITY comic books and as a former writer for Entertainment Weekly. Bernardin’s debut as the writer of STATIC SHOCK will be issue #7, with Scott McDaniel remaining on the title as illustrator.
Marc Bernardin met with BET.com before Comic Con NYC for a brief interview about the upcoming series and what we should expect.

Terry Mcfly: When did you first discover Static Shock?
Bernardin: I’ve been familiar with Static as a character since the mid 90’s, when it was part of the Milestone line of comics that DC was publishing. It was run by Dwayne Mcduffie, who is a bit of a hero of mine. I followed Static through the Milestone books and I also followed him through the animated show that was on the WB for a couple of years. I was really intrigued to hear that Static was going to be a part of this rebranding New 52 initiative. When these new books started to come out, I picked up a few and I was actually pleasantly surprised by them.

Terry Mcfly: What does it mean to you, when you write about a character such as Static Shock?
Bernardin: As a black comic book fan and as a father of black children, it’s really important that people see themselves reflected in a media they like. I remember growing up and looking at the Cosby show for the first time and getting to look at people who were like me and doing things like I did, people who were my age going to college and studying for exams. I think for a long time, a black kid picking up a comic book never got the chance to see himself, so I think that characters like Static are incredibly important.

Terry Mcfly: Do you see any traits of yourself within Virgil Hawkins aka Static Shock?
Bernardin: I’m not nearly as heroic as Virgil Hawkins is, I’m just not the dude who’s gonna run into a burning building and pull people out of it. I’m not the dude who’s going to put his life on the line for strangers. There’s a sort of wide eye to do the right thing that I think is very aspirational, I’d like to think I’m a smart guy like Virgil. I relate to his love for family, his sort of passion for science and technology.  I like his selflessness when it comes to the people of his city, I can’t say that I can see myself in all of his traits but I think everyone can find a shade in there that they can relate to.

Terry Mcfly: How does Static Shock differ from your previous projects?
Bernardin: Most of the work I’ve done in comics so far hasn’t been overly heroic, most of the stuff I’ve done has been straight up action adventure and a lil bit of science fiction. I’m also a TV writer, I wrote for Syfy’s Alpha’s this year, which was about grown up people doing grown up things. I’ve never been able to really write about a kid like this before, Static  is 16 years old. It gives me the chance to tap into the stuff I enjoyed reading as a kid like Spider-Man and the X-Men, also gives me the chance to give it a sort of contemporary urban flare. Static is definitely a departure from the work I’ve done before but it gives me a chance to work with the stuff that I like.

Terry Mcfly: Where do you get inspiration from when you write for a character like Static Shock?
Bernardin: My inspiration comes from books like Spiderman and Invincible, books about teen heroes. Harry Potter to a large extent as well, which is sort of a mixture of children and teenage writing. Also things that I remember from watching movies, like the idea that heroes are all about choice, a hero is somebody that chooses to do the right thing when it’s not the easiest thing to do.

Terry Mcfly: How does it feel knowing that the characters you develop will be looked up to and portrayed by people as if they’re actual people?
Bernardin: It’s humbling, the work that we do comes with a great responsibility. Every comic book is somebody’s first comic book, every story is somebody’s first story. I think also when you’re dealing with a character that is a minority, it’s a rarity in today’s market so there’s  a huge responsibility that I feel I have to the characters, to the books, to the legacy that Dwayne Mcduffie left behind. I want to do this as well as I can do a thing, I want to make this the best book as I can possibly make it so that a parent will feel comfortable giving it to a kid and a kid will feel comfortable passing it off to another friend. I want to create something that has a sense of longevity to it.

Terry Mcfly: When can we expect to see an issue of Static Shock written by you at the local comic store?
Bernardin: That’s an excellent question! I believe the second issue is on stands this month and I start on issue number 7. I’m guessing it will be available sometime in April.

Terry Mcfly: Do you have any advice to share with future African American writers looking to write comics like you one day?
Bernardin: Write as much as you can and start writing as early as you can. Also read as much as you can, it’s all about learning how to do it. There’s a talent involved but there is also a craft to it. The more you read and write, the more you take in and start to find your voice. I am a black writer but I do not only want to be viewed as a black writer, I want to be a viewed as a writer who happens to be black. Do the best that you can and the world will do its own to pitch and hold you as much as it can.

Terry Mcfly: Where can we find more information about you and also where can we find more information about Static Shock?
Bernardin: DCComics.com will be the one-stop warehouse for all static shock information. As for me, I can be found on twitter @MarcBernardin. Twitter and Facebook are the places I spend most of my online life.

Contact or share your thoughts about this article with Terry Mcfly on twitter @Terry_Mcfly

Introducing the Apple iPhone 4S & iCloud

As many of you may have heard by now, Apple didn't announce the iPhone 5 today, instead they've announced a few price drops, the addition of Sprint as a carrier, and also a new variation of the iPhone 4. The new iPhone 4 is pretty impressive and definitely worth picking up if you don't already own one.

Apple also announced that they would be adding Siri voice command to their phones and the addition of iCloud for iOS5 users.

Documentary: Nobody Can Predict The Moment Of Revolution #OccupyWallstreet

Here's a very interesting and informative documentary about the social movement/protest taking place on wall street right now.

Here's a description directly from the source:
"We want to share insights into the formation of a new social movement as it is still taking shape in real time. The video was shot during the 5th and 6th day of the occupation. This idea to occupy the financial district in New York City was inspired by recent uprisings in Spain, Greece, Egypt, and Tunisia which most of us were following online. Despite of the corporate media's effort to silence the protests, and Yahoo's attempt to to censor it in e-mail communication, the occupation is growing in numbers and spreading to other cities in the US and abroad."

Here's another video that I found yesterday from the scene on wall street, very powerful message indeed.

A young law student lies down in protest in front of a major bank on September 24, 2011. Chanting, "I am not moving!" and, "This is the bank that took my parents home!" he peacefully submits to the authorities.
